Breath test for corona:Swedish scientists made 2 new devices, in which the infection will be detected only by coughing 3 times
At present, RT-PCR test and rapid antigen test are used for corona test. But recently Swedish scientists have told in a new study that corona infection can also be detected by doing a breath test.
study like this
- The study has been published in the journal Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses. This has been done by researchers from the University of Gothenburg.
- Devices named Particles in Exhaled Air (PExA) and BreathExplore (BE) were developed for the research.
- Corona samples were collected in three ways in the study.
- In the first method, the people involved in the research inhaled and exhaled 20 times. In the second method, it was stopped for a while by leaving a long deep breath. In the third method, the device was coughed up three times.
Study results
- Scientists found that coughing into the device gave the best results for a breath test. The second number is to exhale deeply and the third is to take a normal breath.
- According to the result, 8 out of 25 coughing samples were found to be corona positive. At the same time, 3 out of 25 samples with deep breath and 2 out of 25 samples with normal breath were found to be corona positive. All these samples were taken by PExA.
- Out of normal breath samples taken from BE, 2 were found positive. It is a handheld device.
scientists' opinion
Emilia Wiklund, who was involved in the study, said, "Through these breath tests, we can detect very small particles. Their diameter is less than 5 micrometers. We have been able to detect RNA, the genetic component of the virus particle, in just a few breaths." "
Professor Anna-Karin Olin, who developed PExA, says that the corona particles in the breath were one-millionth of the sample taken from the nose. Despite that, we were successful in the investigation. Further research is being done on this discovery.
